Known for its bold, flavorful and largely hop-centric beers, Stone Brewing Co. has been brewing in North County San Diego since 1996. Founded by Greg Koch and Steve Wagner, Stone is the 10th largest craft brewer in the United States—a position it achieved without paid advertising, discounting or compromised standards. The company is dedicated to supporting the various communities it serves and promoting a culture of social responsibility. Sustainability practices are core to its business practices and the brewery works to minimize its carbon footprint throughout all its various endeavors. In addition to brewing, Stone owns two eclectic farm-to-table restaurants—Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens – Escondido and Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens – Liberty Station—and Stone Farms, an organic farm located near the brewery which grows produce for the restaurants. Stone also operates Stone Distributing Co., which distributes more than 30 craft beer brands throughout Southern California.

  • Environment

Our rooftop solar panels produce about 30% of the power for the brewery and our restaurant, preventing approximately 160 metric tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere annually. Our Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens restaurants are the largest purchasers of local, organic produce in San Diego County. Our Meatless Monday menu prevents 110,448 pounds of CO2 from being released annually. "Spent grain" that has been used in the brewing process is then repurposed as a mulching tool in our garden. The rest is used by local farmers as livestock feed, and as ingredients in locally made soaps and dog treats (creatively named Stone Bones). We compost our kitchen waste, some for use in the garden and Stone Farms, and some for pick up by local farmers. We have electric car charging stations in the parking lot of Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens and our Headquarters facility to accommodate eco-minded commuters. Our water reclamation system prevents 30,000 gallons of wastewater from entering the sewer system each day. Our new centrifuge helps us filter our beer with less waste, and increased our yield by more than 5,000 barrels last year. Stone Distributing added its first hybrid delivery vehicle to its fleet of 28 bio-diesel trucks. The fleet uses a 20/80 blend of biodiesel. Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens – Escondido is just one of two projects in California, and one of just 11 total projects worldwide to attain the SITE Certification. Stone Packaging Hall’s PV installation project was nominated “Most Innovative Project of the Year” by Solar Builder Magazine.
