The mission of The Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce is to advocate for the free enterprise system and sound economic development, foster success for its for-profit and not-for-profit members, and promote a high quality of life for all Tompkins County residents. We are the voice of local business and our dedicated staff works hard to save our members money, market their businesses and build our community. The Chamber provides value to its members through numerous professional development programs, low cost targeted advertising and great networking opportunities. We continuously advocate for our members both on the local, and state levels on various issues ranging from HR policy to zoning and redevelopment.

  • Community

The Chamber's goal as an organization is community well-being, enrichment and growth. Our goal is largely to stimulate this growth through improving the business climate and supporting local employers. Our work has often extended well past that realm of operation. The most notable of the Chamber's achivements has been aiding in the fundraising and construction of the Cayuga Waterfront Trail; a six-mile, multi-use trail providing an active, non-motorized transportation and recreation way connecting our community's most popular waterfront destinations.

  • Environment

The Chamber is an advocate for responsible development, and our relationship with the local Convention and Visitors Bureau leaves us forever tied to preserving the stunning natural beauty of our area. We have worked hard to help combat the progression of invasive species into our water resources through lobbying efforts, awareness campaigns and emphasizing the preventative benefits of initiatives such as dredging. We’ve also partnered with the Tompkins County Solid waste division to increase recycling efforts within our member businesses through our ReBusiness Chamber Challenge. Our dedication to our community’s unique natural resources will lead us to new and interesting business partnerships in the future.

  • Social

The most important mission of the Tompkins Chamber is maintaining and improving the standard of living in Tompkins County. We continually look for gaps in service in our County, and apply for and execute state and federal grants to fill those gaps. Some examples of those services have been offering free small business consulting services for community members looking to start their own business, and being a Obamacare navigator for those who were overwhelmed by the new look insurance marketplace. We also offer money to those looking to hire new employees through On the Job Training Grants, which further help us grow our community.

  • Employees Culture

Our employees are at the front-line of creating and maintaining a better business environment for Tompkins County. They are also in a unique position of having to provide a litany of services to businesses across countless business sectors. To better equip them to do so, we routinely expose our employees to professional development and networking opportunities. Chamber employees are involved in organizations such as BNI and Leadership Tompkins, as well as active in non-paying organizations such as local boards and committees.
