Yards Brewing Company

Yards Brewing Company

VERIFIED business since Apr 2015

Founded in 1994, Yards began as a garage-sized operation in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia, where the award-winning ESA was born. Now located at 901 N. Delaware Avenue, we’ve upheld our distinctive English-inspired style while continuing to embrace the innovative spirit that defines American craft brewing. We offer free tours on weekends, and our Tasting Room is open seven days a week.

  • Community

Here at Yards, our commitment to fine handcrafted ales is rivaled only by our dedication to serving the communities we call home. In 2013 alone, we’ve contributed $20,763 and donated 2,164 cases of beer (an approximate retail value of $75,000) to such charitable organizations as the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House, American Cancer Society and The Food Trust. Together, the total value of our annual charitable contributions exceeds $95,000, and our beer donations alone could fill two tractor-trailers! Notably, Yards donated $5,000 from sales of our fall seasonal, PYNK: A tart berry ale, and our PYNK Affair Fundraiser to benefit the Tyanna Breast Cancer Foundation. We’ve proudly contributed to hundreds of charitable causes in 2013 and plan to do even more in 2014. We can’t do all this good without the hard work of our staff and the support of our local business partners. Not only are over ¾ of our employees proud Philadelphia residents, the majority of our vendors and wholesale accounts are located within a 100-mile radius of the city. So when someone raises a pint of Yards, they are bolstering their local economy and ensuring that its businesses continue to thrive. Cheers to that!

  • Environment

Monetary and product contributions aren’t the only way we give back. Sustainability plays a major role in the day-to-day operations at Yards. We’re Pennsylvania’s first 100% wind-powered brewery and our cardboard packaging is certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. We're proud to be longstanding members of the Sustainable Business Network, and we were recently honored at the Non-profit Professionals Summit for our extensive work with the non-profit sector. Additionally, our brewhouse collects and reuses 2 million gallons of water per year, our bar tops are repurposed bowling alleys, and our packaging is certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. We also compost our kitchen scraps, and our spent grain is collected and sent to Hillside Farms for bison feed; in turn we use HF's bison meat in our delicious chili.

  • Employees Culture

Aside from our daily end-of-shift beers, Yards regularly sponsors employee happy hours at our favorite local watering holes, field trips, and team building workshops. We recently conducted a companywide Beer School, complete with workshops, lectures, and a grueling test (that everyone passed with flying colors).
