Knotty Tie Co.

VERIFIED business since Apr 2015

Knotty Tie Co. was founded in 2013 with a mission to revolutionize neckties by making them meaningful, customizable and with our own hands. No minimum orders. No outsourced production. You imagine a design and we can make it happen. Designs are printed on certified organic cotton sateen fabric in an environmentally-friendly process and then we craft each tie by hand at our HQ in Denver, CO.

  • Community

[Disclaimer: Both projects are currently in the works] We believe in creating opportunities for the most disadvanted members of our local community and in the near future plan to establish a placment program for resettled refugees who graduate from the African Community Center's "We Made This" program. Refugees may lack english language proficiency, have likely suffered tramautic experiences and may not have education credentials....not to mention the shear difficulty adjusting to such drastic cultural differences. Our goal is to provide an employment environment that doesn't abuse, but rather, empowers refugees to attain meaningful and desirable work for a fair, living wage. Another project constantly in the works is our Knotty Bear program. We combine our scrap fabric cuttings with donated fabric from local retailers and mix in a touch from the generosity of friends. What results is a teddy bear like no other, and then we donate it to a child in treatment at a local childrens' hospital. See! Knotty can be nice!

  • Environment

Because we've designed our products from scratch, we are dedicated to considering the environmental impact of every decision; from sourcing materials to printing and manufacturing processes. We transform fabric into ties, and in the process use hundreds, if not thousands, of yards of fabric per year. We only use certified 100% organic cotton sateen fabric and don't let any of it go to waste; using the scraps as stuffing for teddy bears and other stuffed animals we make in our spare time for local childrens' hospitals. We also considered the environmental impact of digital textile printing.  Unlike conventional textile manufacturing, digital printing entails very little waste of fabric, ink, water or electricity. Our supplier prints using eco-friendly, water-based inks and no additional chemicals are used in the printing, preparation or manufacturing process. To wrap things up, we use only recycled and recyclable packaging and create our displays out of second hand items from local thrift stores.

  • Social

Our company works closely with a transformative community partner, YouthBiz. Young, aspiring entrepreneurs are matched with mentors in their areas of interest, and Knotty Tie Co. proudly provides mentoring to those interested in fashion, apparel manufacturing or technology.

  • Employees Culture

We are all makers. Every member of our team first learns how to sew if they don't already know how. We started the organization out of a deep desire to make something physical with our own hands - and that vision continues today as every staff member is involved in making each and every tie. We are all artists. Beyond manufacturing, each team member is also given basic training in illustrator, photoshop and other technology suties. Each staff person learns how to design and comes up with new designs regularly. We democratically select our favorites to be publicly launched.
